What is Liquid Glass?
Liquid Glass is the design language Apple introduced in 2025 across iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26. App icons look as if they're made of layered glass. A bright rim catches the light along the edges, a soft frosted glow sits near the top, and the symbol seems to float above the background.
How DockDoodle recreates the look
Choose Liquid Glass in the Style tab and DockDoodle adds four layers on top of your artwork, all on Apple's squircle grid:
- Specular rim: a bright edge highlight that fades around the shape.
- Frosted glow: a soft light bloom in the upper corner.
- Inner shading: gentle depth at the bottom edge so the icon feels thick.
- Glossy artwork: your drawing or emoji gets its own top highlight and a floating shadow.
You can switch finishes at any time. Your drawing stays put, so it's easy to compare Liquid Glass with Big Sur, Aqua and Flat.
Make one in three steps
- Open the icon maker with Liquid Glass already on.
- Pick a gradient, then draw, stamp an emoji or drop in a logo.
- Click Download PNG or .icns, or Copy and paste it straight into Get Info.
Tips for a convincing glass icon
- Light symbols on saturated gradients look the glassiest. White on blue, pink or purple works well.
- Use a lighter top colour. A gradient that's brighter at the top reinforces the light coming from above.
- Keep the depth toggle on. The floating shadow under your artwork does a lot of the work.
- Bold, simple shapes catch the highlight best and still read at Dock sizes.
Liquid Glass finish vs Apple's Icon Composer
DockDoodle produces a flat PNG or ICNS with the glass look built in. That's perfect for custom Dock icons, folders, mockups and social posts. Apple's Icon Composer makes layered .icon files that change with light, dark, clear and tinted modes, which is what developers shipping a macOS 26 app should use. Many people sketch the idea in DockDoodle first and rebuild the layers in Icon Composer. See the icon size guide for details.
